Download ZPL for Zebra Printers
Most merchants print Zebra thermal labels exactly like any other label: the app renders a PDF and the Zebra driver rasterizes it. But if your Zebra printer is connected over the network (or via a print server) and you want native, crisp thermal output, you can export a raw .zpl file instead — Zebra’s own command language, generated at the printer’s native resolution.
ZPL vs PDF

How to export a .zpl file
Section titled “How to export a .zpl file”- Create the print job as usual (any source — transfer, product filter, CSV, or order). Use a Zebra preset (Zebra 2¼×1¼” or Zebra 4×6”) as the template’s sheet size so the label dimensions match your stock.
- Open the job (from Print history or right after creating it).
- Click Download .zpl (Zebra) — the file downloads immediately (
labels-...-.zpl). - Send the file to your printer the way your setup expects — typically one of:
- copy it to the printer’s network share (
copy labels.zpl \\\\printer-ip\\share), lp/lprto the printer’s queue,- or drop it into your print software’s raw-pass-through.
- copy it to the printer’s network share (
- 2,000-label cap: exports above 2,000 labels are refused — split the job, or print a PDF instead (PDFs auto-split at 2,000 labels per file).
- Layout matches the template: the ZPL uses the same slots, barcode height, and font sizes as your template. Preview it by test-rendering the template’s PDF — same layout, different output format.
- Roll presets don’t need calibration or start position — there’s no sheet grid to align.
