Assign Charts to Products
This guide shows you how to connect a chart to products so shoppers see it on the right product pages. Rules live on the Assignment page.
How assignment works
Section titled “How assignment works”Each rule points at one chart and contains one or more conditions. When a product matches a rule, that chart appears on its product page. When several rules match the same product, the highest priority wins — priority is simply the order of rules in your list.
Simple rules (a single is condition on collection, tag, vendor, or product type) resolve instantly on the storefront with no product writes needed. Complex rules are applied to matching products in the background after you publish.
Step 1: Add a rule
Section titled “Step 1: Add a rule”- In the app, go to Assignment.
- Click Add rule.
- Pick the chart this rule assigns.
Step 2: Set the conditions
Section titled “Step 2: Set the conditions”Each condition has three parts — a field, an operator, and a value:
| Field | Examples |
|---|---|
| Collection | tops, winter-2026 |
| Tag | hoodie, sale |
| Vendor | Acme Apparel |
| Product type | T-shirt |
| Title | works with contains / starts with |
| SKU | works with is / contains / starts with |
| Metafield | any product metafield value |
| Operator | Meaning |
|---|---|
| is | exact match (case-insensitive) |
| is not | everything except this value |
| contains | value appears somewhere in the field |
| starts with | field begins with this value |
Choose whether the rule requires ALL conditions or ANY condition to match:
- ALL — “collection is Tops and tag is not accessory”.
- ANY — “tag is hoodie or tag is sweatshirt” (one rule instead of two).
Step 3: Preview the impact
Section titled “Step 3: Preview the impact”Before publishing, click Preview matches. You’ll see the first matching products with four columns:
- Product — the item that matches.
- Matched by — which condition(s) of the rule hit, e.g. “1 of 2 conditions”.
- Chart now — the chart currently on the product.
- Chart after — the chart this rule will put there.
A summary line shows how many products will change, and a warning appears if any product already using a different chart will be overwritten. Previewing never writes anything.
Step 4: Publish
Section titled “Step 4: Publish”Click Publish. Simple rules take effect immediately. Complex rules run in the background — a progress indicator shows how many products have been processed, and the job retries automatically if interrupted.
Changing priority
Section titled “Changing priority”Rules apply top to bottom — the first matching rule wins. Use the Move up / Move down buttons to reorder. Example: a specific “Leather jackets” rule above a general “All tops” rule.
When products or collections change
Section titled “When products or collections change”When you edit a product or collection in Shopify, the app re-checks assignments for it automatically in the background — new matching products pick up the chart on their own.
