Theme Health Check
Size charts fail silently in one specific way: the app block lives per theme, so publishing a new theme — or a theme update removing the block — makes every chart invisible at once. Nothing errors; shoppers just stop seeing size guides.
The theme health check watches for exactly this, so you hear about it from the app instead of from a customer.
What it checks
Section titled “What it checks”The app periodically inspects your published theme (and re-checks within minutes of a theme publish) for:
- The Size chart app block being present in the theme.
- Whether the theme supports app blocks at all (Canvas-based themes don’t).
The warnings
Section titled “The warnings”| Banner on Home | Meaning | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| ”Size charts aren’t on your store yet” | The published theme doesn’t have the Size chart block | Click Open theme editor and add the block |
| ”This theme can’t display size charts” | The published theme is built on Canvas, which doesn’t support app blocks | Use a non-Canvas theme for product pages, or contact us for options |
Each banner carries a deep link straight into the theme editor with the right context — no hunting through Shopify admin.
Email alerts on theme publish
Section titled “Email alerts on theme publish”When you publish a new theme, the app also sends a reminder email (best-effort) to install the app embed/block on it — because the banner only helps if you open the app. Between the banner and the email, a silently broken storefront shouldn’t happen.
I republished the same theme — will charts break?
Section titled “I republished the same theme — will charts break?”Re-publishing the same theme (with the block already in it) is fine. The health check re-runs and finds the block.
I added the block but the banner is still there
Section titled “I added the block but the banner is still there”The check result is cached briefly (a few minutes). Refresh the app page — or fix the block and give it a moment. If the banner persists, verify you added the block to the published theme, not a draft copy.
Does the health check need extra permissions?
Section titled “Does the health check need extra permissions?”No extra scopes are required — it reads theme state the app already has access to.
